The 3D Compass module provides orientation data to the Flight Controller. It is crucial for Course Lock (headless) mode, but also takes part in stabilization in other modes. It is placed within landing gear because it needs to be separated from EM interference caused by large currents drawn from battery and sent to motors.
Only one version of the module is known.
