The Turing Instite is the United Kingdom's national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. They run a 12 month enrichment scheme so if you're doing your PhD and it's relating to machine learning, I strongly recommend applying to do this.
They also run regular data study groups, where you can apply to work with them on interesting datasets. These are great opportunities to test your skills in new ways. Your project will survive if you take some time off to do this; I recommend doing this.
