Overview

A cookie ribbon explains to the user how the site uses their data and always sits at the top of a site as a default unless dismissed by the user. (legal requirement)

Use of this pattern

  • Use a cookie ribbon at the top of a site as a default to indicate to the user that data will be recorded locally on the users machine.
  • Using a cookie ribbon is needed when data is taken from the users journey on a site. (for site improvements from analysis).

How it works

  • A cookie ribbon always sits at the top of a site page above the header always.
  • Use cookie ribbon set text 'By deault this site uses cookies to collect information and improve. To control cookies, you can adjust your browser settings.' with appropriate links.
  • The ribbon should have two links placed in the copy.
  • One link will direct the user to an a cookie policy explaining the use and what that means for the user.
  • Another link will direct the user to an informative page of how to adjust browser settings in regards to cookies.
