Overview

Use of this pattern

  • Use the prototype ribbon to indicate if the page or site is at an alpha or beta state of function.
  • Alpha ribbons indicate a basic prototype that has limited interaction and is created for first level feedback from users to gain an indication of weather you should progress onto beta.
  • Beta ribbons indicate a prototype that is fully functioning and almost ready for live launch before testing over an amount of time to indicate a stable launch of the site/page.
  • As well as indicating to the user the state of the page or site the ribbon allows for feedback from the user with a link to feedback page.
  • Do not use the prototype ribbon if the page or site has been officially launched after the discovery phase of alpha and beta.
  • Text for site banners should read as 'This site is part of a new service - your feedback will help us to improve it.' with a link to a feedback page.
  • Text for page banners should read as 'This page is part of a new service - your feedback will help us to improve it.' with a link to a feedback page.

How it works

  • For a site wide alpha or beta release the prototype ribbon should be placed just underneath the cookie ribbon and above the header.
  • For a page alpha or beta release the prototype ribbon should be placed directly below the header and breadcrumb ribbon.
