Notes

  • Greg and Damien had a discussion with an editor from Manning Publications earlier this week, who are looking for a book on software engineering for data scientists. It would be unusual for them, but they are open to the idea of publishing our Python RSE book with an open license (which would be a deal breaker for us if they couldn't). The next step is for us to fill out and submit their book proposal template (see #371). We don't have to go with Manning in the end if we don't want to, but most publishers have a similar proposal form so going through the process with Manning will be useful.
  • Greg will commence a complete read-through of the book ASAP. Along the way, he will create new issues for people to work on.
  • Greg will also create an issue to suggest that we swtich from R-markdown to just regular markdown, as we don't use the code execution functionality in R-markdown all that often.
  • Damien will start work on incorporating the Zipf's Law narrative into the correctness and continuous integration chapters (see #372).
