Version 3 introduces a plethora of new features to be excited about! It was my mission to improve user friendliness with the release of Version 3, and I was able to do just that.

Major Changes

  • A brand new interface was introduced along with a color scheme that helps direct the user's attention to important buttons and labels.
  • Log entries are shown in a tabular format and can be edited or deleted from within the application as opposed to opening a separate text file. These log entries can also be exported, in the form of a table, to a PDF.
  • New metrics can be seen in the form of bar charts and pie charts. These metrics report the number and frequency that a user has worked: for a specific company, at a certain location, and under a particular supervisor.
  • Backups of the database can be created for the user to store on an external device or on the cloud. These backups contain all log entries, locations, companies, and supervisors. Backups can later be imported at any point in the future - fully restoring the previous state of the database.

This release allows you to add companies, locations, and supervisors to your log entry. You can edit and delete them as well. You can also set a default selection for each one. Additionally, there is a new comments feature that will show up as "Comments: [some comments here]" in your log entries.

I would like to give a special thanks to my friend Kevin Boyette who was instrumental in my success with this version. He was always very helpful whenever I approached him with questions regarding best practices and useful frameworks/APIs for this project.

(If you're wondering where "Version 1" is, then let me assure you that it was so basic that I never thought to make it an official GitHub release. I simply put Version 1 on my father's computer and then began developing Version 2. There was no database in Version 1, and no other input options aside from a single text field, a label for the text field, and a button used to submit the log entry. If you're curious to see what Version 1 looked like, check out the History of Releases on the Recordian wiki. Needless to say, Version 2 is a major release, and, while it definitely still needs work, I'm very proud of it!)
