Menus
The University of Leeds Design System contains multiple menu systems and areas on pages which can be configured to appear sitewide, in groups of pages, or on single pages. The design was built to cater for a large amount of content!
Examples of the way in which menus are configured can be found in the file data/navigation.yml
- this file can be used to define any menus which are present on all pages of the site.
Examples of the menus in action can be found in the theme's repository GitHub Pages site.
These appear at the top of every page in the black bar and are single level lists of links under headings. The intended use of these is to highlight links with other projects or related websites. These links are usually configured in your navigation.yml
data file as they don't usually change from one page to the next.
This is the main navigation for the site and can contain single links or dropdowns with a single level of nesting. The intended use of this menu is to provide navigation to key areas of the site. These links are usually configured in your navigation.yml
data file as they don't usually change from one page to the next.
This provides navigation within a section of the site (which you would probably link to from the main menu). It allows you to nest pages in a hierarchical structure and provide links to related content in each one. These links would usually be configured using separate data files for each section, then referred to using the datafile:
front matter parameter.
Multiple lists of links can be placed in the footer - the above screenshot shows three separate lists. These lists of links are usually configured in your navigation.yml
data file as they don't usually change from one page to the next.
These links sit in the bottom of each page next to the copyright statement, and usually include links to the site privacy statement, Accessibility statement, Terms and Conditions and Freedom of Information request information. These links are usually configured in your navigation.yml
data file as they don't usually change from one page to the next.
