Microsoft PowerToys version

0.84.0

Installation method

PowerToys auto-update

Running as admin

Yes

Area(s) with issue?

Workspaces

Steps to reproduce

Open Edge and multiple (PWA) windows (I normally open five spread across two monitors, but this is not necessary to demonstrate the problem). Create a workspace with the layout. Close all the windows and activate the workspace.

✔️ Expected Behavior

The workspace should open with the PWA windows in the same location they were when the workspace was created.

❌ Actual Behavior

The location of each PWA window in the workspace shows a generic instance of Edge with a tab opened to the new tab page.

I have the same issue with Microsoft Edge. Details @ Closed Duplicate Issue #34779

@Jason-Friederich-Avient

Was able to get the desired behavior by creating a desktop shortcut from the app within edge and then copying the command line arguments from that shortcut to add to the edge command captured by the Workspaces tool.

e.g.

Shortcut had command line:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge_proxy.exe"  --profile-directory=Default --app-id=<long id string> --app-url=https://<application url> --app-launch-source=4

Copied the command line arguments and applied them to edge command in Workspaced editor. This appears to work.

Even with the workaround of copying the arguments to the editor it does not work correctly for me:
I have 3 PWAs that should open in 1 workspace at their dedicated positions but it seems that those 3 positions are randomly assigned to the 3 PWAs. This way it is sometimes correct, but most of the time the windows are not where they should be.

@7AvbOEZM9xEvXdN please retest with the new 0.87 PT version and if the issue persists send a /bugreport. Thanks!

Works for me now PWA windows. Only "New Outlook" app is not detected when opened on capture.

I just tried it with 0.87, and it didn't work too well.

For background, I open PWAs from multiple profiles in Edge (most from my personal profile, one from my work profile, and one from a profile that is not tied to an MS account and only exists on this computer).

The PWA tied to my work profile didn't open at all. The other PWAs and Edge opened and the windows appear to have been created in the right locations. However, the content of the windows was random. For example, the window that should have opened to the PWA tied to my work profile opened a different one of the PWAs. Another window that should have opened a PWA contained Edge itself opened to where I left off before (had the tabs I was using before). I don't think there were any windows that had the correct PWA open in it. Also, the window that should have opened Edge with existing tabs opened Edge with a single new tab.

I have attached the bug report for your review.

v0.87.0 didn't solve this for me. Just in case, I recreated my workspaces after the update too.

In my case, I'm using Vivaldi. It opened new Vivaldi windows at the places where the PWAs were supposed to be. The PWAs in question are the following URLs:

I also have a normal Vivaldi window recorded in the Workspace

@bergamin Thanks for your feedback!
The PWA apps were implemented for edge and chrome. Other browsers are currently not supported, sorry. Maybe in the future.
Best regards
