Freezone Configuration

Overview

Freezone is (most of the time, at least) a rather valuable addition to any server, allowing any player to join it with no issue. Usually, that helps increase the server's popularity since newer players are gaining access to a fresh gaming space.

However, it is not that simple to make your server Freezone-compliant. Remember, Nadeo invented this.

Registering in the Freezone

Warning

As of now, this process is only required on modern Windows versions (>=8.1).

Should you encounter a similar issue on Linux, this Maniaplanet Forum post might help.

The process is unnecessarily complicated, since the security certificate has not been updated in the past years. Due to that, you are unable to access the freezone:servers manialink (aka this website) normally on Windows. To overcome this obstacle:

  1. WinKey+R
  2. Type in inetcpl.cpl
  3. Make your way into the Advanced tab (the rightmost one)
  4. Find the Security section (bronze lock icon)
  5. Uncheck the Check for server certificate revocation option

After that procedure, you should now be able to visit the manialink freezone:servers in-game and do whatever it wants you to. If that is not the case, we suggest asking around the official Trackmania channels, such as the Trackmania Discord server.

Caution

After this process, make sure to set the values back to default to not compromise your machine's security.

Activating the plugin

If the payment of the initial 10000 coppers deposit went through, you ought to enable the Freezone plugin bundled with the controller. This is done by modifying the file /plugins/freezone/Config.js, setting the isEnabled property to true.

Warning

Do not forget to copy the Trackmania Webservices password you received from the manialink, as that is used for ManiaLive authentication. That password should be input into the FREEZONE_PASSWORD value of the .env file in the root directory of the project.

Also, it might be a good idea to check whether your server is "compatible" with the Freezone rules, those being:

  • The server can not have a number of slots greater than 40
  • The server name must respect the Freezone SERVER_NAME format
  • The server must be public
  • The server must use a plugin that supports Freezone
