Live Citations mode
Live citations mode is newly introduced in DocDown version 0.6. It harnesses the amazing live citations functionality of BetterBibTeX. It exports your Markdown document into a Word document with citation keys converted into Word-compatible live citations which are linked to your Zotero library. These can then be managed and synced through the Zotero plugin for Word.
Live citations mode does not make use of a CSL file or an exported Zotero bibliography file. Instead, both of these features are linked directly to Zotero's settings and can be set using the Zotero plugin for Word.
You can initially set your desired citation style in the 'Mode' tab of the Preferences window, but you can also change this setting later in Word.
For live citations mode to work, Zotero must be open and running while the conversion runs.
Once you open an exported document, the live citation keys may read 'Do Zotero refresh'. In the Zotero plugin toolbar, click the refresh button to update and build the citations.
Version 0.6 introduced an advanced 'output format' option. This is because LibreOffice does not recognise live citations generated for Word. Instead, Pandoc needs to export directly to LibreOffice's ODT format for live citations to work there. For this reason, DocDown can now export directly to ODT. This is an experimental setting and while some other export formats are also presented, they may not work as expected and will ignore the 'Word style reference' setting.
