To try out @chenyan-dfinity's work in Rust myself, I wrote some additional tests to get familiar with using the serde API exposed here. This PR has those tests, which may also be useful to add to our test suite (but not critical).

If you have time, can you help to figure out the lifetime problem for str
test_check("test") will fail, but test_check("test".to_string()) should work.
Not sure if it's due to the way I wrote deserialize_str or DeserializeOwned simply cannot handle &str

Looking into it now; the compiler error that I get is a new one for me.

This document seems relevant, and discusses the issue that I think we are having here:

I think that the library is doing the first one, but that for that to work, we need the second version instead?

This is still a draft so not sure if I should review yet or not but wanted to at least block on the addition of lib/Cargo.lock since the root lockfile should be the only one we use now.

I believe that those changes came from Yan's branch; I just added one file to that.

Need to update the branch manually now it seems.
