Automatic Thumbs (JPG GIF) on direct uploaded MP4 videos

This article is intended to clarify the operation of uploading and extracting Thumbs from videos.

There are two ways to submit videos to your streamer.

Encoder

The first and most recommended is to submit through the Encoder. You can use the Public Encoder or install and use a private encoder (recommended).

Advantages of using the encoder:

  1. You can use links from youtube and other sites to download and convert videos directly.
  2. It supports several video formats, because regardless of the format of the submitted video, it will be converted to MP4 in up to 3 resolutions (Low, SD and HD).
  3. In addition it gives you the option to convert to WEBM, also in 3 resolutions, to support the old browsers.
  4. A JPG image and an animated GIF will be automatic extracted from the middle of the video.

Direct Upload MP4

The second option is to upload an already encoded MP4 file, in this option the extraction of the thumbs is not automatic, unless you have the MP4ThumbsAndGif plugin

The MP4ThumbsAndGif plugin will use the encoder to extract the images, so you'll need your site to be located where your encoder can access it. In the case of the public encoder, your site must be in a public address. In case your site is on a local network, you will need to install an encoder locally.
