Organization and moderation of the next VMA - 5 mins Moderator: Kevin
Koen: Release nice, automated tests especially nice.
Kevin: There were several RCs (4?)
Koen and Kevin: Not as horrible as it used to be due to testing.
Jose (as next release manager): Is easier now. Would like to focus more on coverage, eg. RAIDUS and LoRA-WAN; expend release specs. By end of release want to have more support for lower-layer parts.
Kevin: Call for volunteers... any?
(calm)
Kevin: Berlin? Inria? In Berlin round-robin would give Kaspar? Francisco was recently. Abadie? Kaspar, any horrible objections?
Emmanuel: for the record Kaspar is quite INRIA in fact ;)
Kevin: It's not too painful, some would even say it's a joy.
Martine: I guess we'll have to force Hauke?
?: Hauke will be thrilled ;-)? -> no, he will not be
(but see AOB when Hauke returned)
Kevin: Do we need that much moderation?
Martine: Previous conclusion was that guidelines need to be there before we open up the process for appointing moderators. That discussion mutated into needing an initial set; then asking for voluneers; then people got volunteered. Question about forum moderation is: Who wants to join, who has ideas for other moderators, please contribute to maintainers list discussion.
Moderators who are not maintainers? Possible but could they read maintainer discussion? (Not super secret anyway)
Nominated/volunteered so far: Martine, Kevin, Leandro, Koen, Francisco, Citrullin
Oleg: Which type of trust issues / problems were there?
Kaspar(?): Some poeple not trusting others to impartially moderate discussions.
Oleg: Just being assigned moderator role doesn't give you power to steer discussion. Kaspar: Splitting a topic gave me a lot of power, felt odd like fiddling with other people's mails. But I think we're over these trust issues.
Emmanuel: Have set to start with whom everybody is happy with. Are the volunteered people OK with that?
(All OKs as long as workload is manageable)
About Philipp Blum: Do we need to send him a mail about the maintainers list? Contact / PM him. Who'll do that? Matthias (as he proposed him?).
Koen: On the topic of splitting threads. Can we disable that? It doesn't play nicely with mailing list mode.
Kaspar: Why? Replies to split will end up in the split threads.
Koen: will be confusing as far I can see.
Oleg: What happens? Just subject or thread ID change?
Koen: Can find that out.
Chrysn: do the replies to the splitted-off thread go to the new email thread, or in the former thread?
Koen: Should behave as if your mails are split in your mailbox, it's based on the message IDs.
Kaspar: Keep active until someone complaints. Koen: Find advantages minimal. Kaspar: Can handpick diverging posts in relevant thread rather than super-long thread. Koen: OK Kevin: (?) Koen: Just please complain if it causes trouble.
Martine volunteers after long silence, everyone cheering.
Hauke joining in, how about release management?
Hauke: A bit out of the loop, would have to catch up a lot. Can do it if necessary, but prefer not to.
Kevin volunteering. Door still open if someone still wants to step up!!
