Interactive installation: Taking the temperature of MozFest #618
Comments
Hello @kaodro - unfortunately we don't think this session specifically fits into the Web Literacy space. I do feel like it's a valuable activity that can play a role within the fesitival as a whole. cc @Saallen @edrushka - what do you two think? Is there a way to incorporate this into the fair or throughout the space as a whole? |
Hello @flukeout Yes, lets give this space within the program but outside of a space. Adding MozFest session milestone |
oh wait- unless @kenyatta1 or @sedgwickkm would like to incorporate it within their space? |
I think this would be better outside of a single space as it's covering the whole Internet Health Report. Sounds good though! |
Yes! @Saallen. I think festival wide is perfect! |
Hi folks! Thanks for changing this, it is definitely festival wide as we will be touching an all topics with the IHR, there was simply no such option to choose in the form (or I missed it) so I went for random ones. We also iterated a bit on the idea and I had a quick chat about it with @Saallen last week in Toronto where she suggested the space on the first floor (couches etc.). It will be more of a "researcher's hub" highlighting sessions related to Internet research and creating a space to hang out and present research work outside of the program. We would also like to run a trial of a future project called "Humans of the Internet" (work title) instead of the temperature taking. I will update this session very, very soon with more details, thanks for your help! |

(Updated version) We transformed the idea into The Internet Research Hub What will happen In the Research Hub we will promote chosen sessions from the official programme on banners designed for this purpose. We will also invite anyone who does work in the field to drop by, sign up with pen and paper, and present their work at a couple of open display tables. In this way, the hub will have its own, dynamic schedule for emerging or spontaneous sessions . We will be continuously feeding these sessions via volunteers to be included in the official schedule as emerging sessions. We will contact researchers in advance of the festival, inviting them to the hub and pointing them to the possibility of holding a session at our hub tables. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other, and where we establish the hub as the "place to hangout for all things research-related". We will invite visitors to sign-up for our mailing lists and leave their contact data for further collaboration. Partner activities in the hub Confirmed Table-Sessions:
Goal Logistics to be coordinated with the Mozfest team:

@kaodro Agreed good to have these close together. Happy to chat more! |
Here is a final summary of what we need in terms of logistics (a copy from the concept doc @DanRad95 has access to):
@DanRad95 Let me know if you need more details or if there is a problem with anything, |
@DanRad95 can you add the size of the room dividers here too for printing measurements |
ping @RadManDan instead |
@kaodro I've added your requested items onto my list! Looking forward to seeing these inflatable dinosaurs! |
@RadManDan now I just need the size of the room dividers cause of printing! thanks! |
@RadManDan any news on the size of the room dividers? Asking cause the designer needs it to design the banners in the right size. Thanks! |

What will happen in your session?
The Internet Health Report team would like to create an interactive installation space focusing on Mozfest participants’ perception of Internet health. In the space we will be “taking the temperature” of MozFest by asking them to fill out quick surveys on how they feel about the big five issues, possibly as an entry and exit survey to gauge temperature before and after.
We are planning to have a big mailbox for survey submissions (we’re thinking a cage with robotic mice) and couple of rollup banners with basic facts and data on the five issues.
This proposal is meant as a placeholder so that we can expand on it with potential collaborators and further iterations on the ideas.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
The goal is to playfully engage MozFest participants and get a picture of how people perceive the state of the Internet and how/if MozFest can influence that. Our ambition would be to release the results of the survey to press before the end of MozFest.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
We might need help with the production of roll-ups, I will update this section as we clarify the format in more detail.
Time needed
All weekend, as an installation, exhibit or drop-in session
