When needing to make DNS changes, this requires us working with 18f. Our current configuration is managed in terraform: https://github.com/18F/dns/blob/main/terraform/data.gov.tf Simply make a PR and tag reviewers. If not getting a response, try reaching out to Bret or John Jediny.

See initial PR here.

Data.gov's production DNS is hosted by GSA (*.data.gov). *.bsp.gsa.gov DNS requests should go to BSP as a generic ticket.

In order to make any updates, we must submit a Service Now ticket to the DNS team.

  1. Open https://gsa.servicenowservices.com/sp/?id=sc_home
  2. Search for "DNS"
  3. Answer Yes for "Do you know the FISMA system?"
  4. Select "Data.gov" for the "FISMA Group"

There is also a GSA how-to for DNS requests

Note: we would like to manage our own DNS in the future as there have been disadvantages to relying on a third-party team for any changes.

Making changes to Netscaler

Note that when adding new domains to Netscaler, there is a catch-all rule *.data.gov that FCS should be aware of. New entries should have higher precedence than the *.data.gov rule, otherwise it will seem like the new domain hasn't been added.
