Summary

SUMMARY: Balance "Increased mass and decreased volume and prying ability of makeshift crowbar."

Purpose of change

Makeshift crowbar has several flaws:

  • We take a pipe with weight of 1250 grams and volume of 1 liter, then just hammer and bent its ends, and suddenly it somehow loses 40% of its mass and somehow increases its volume by 1.5 times.
  • More importantly, if the pipe is soft and/or ductile enough to be hammered by a nearby rock in just 1 minute, then it isn't sturdy enough and shouldn't be able to pry locked doors.

Describe the solution

  • Aligned mass and volume of makeshift crowbar to the ones a pipe has.
  • Reduced PRY quality from 2 to 1, so it no longer is able to pry locked doors. Adjusted description to reflect that.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Add something like sturdy pipe that doesn't drop from smashing lockers or similar flimsy furniture, and which you could turn into makeshift crowbar that can pry locked doors, but crafting it would require much more effort.

Testing

None.

What's the makeshift crowbar useful for then? The volume changes are needed, but just making it a passable melee weapon isn't great

What's the makeshift crowbar useful for then?

Prying closed crates and lifting manhole covers.

I like the alternative solution more, but properly realizing it would require sprawling changes and present state of abstraction isn't that bad of a compromise. Another thing to consider is that such thin walled, 'flimsy' pipe/crowbar would handle much more like a baton when used as a weapon.
And slightly off-topic - its perfectly feasible to pry a wooden door with a claw hammer, perhaps extending it with a length of pipe to gain more leverage if lacking the strength.
