This repository is a fork of Zcash in turn forked from Bitcoin Core which contains protocol
changes to support the Zerocash protocol. It implements the Zclassic
cryptocurrency, which maintains a separate ledger from the Bitcoin
network, for several reasons, the most immediate of which is that the
consensus protocol is different.
Zcash and Zclassic both run on the same underlying code. We are backing the technology behind Zcash the same way the Zcash developers are backing our code. Although we share a mutually beneficial relationship with the Zcash developers, we disagree with how Zcash is run. To put it plainly, any for-profit corporation that develops and taxes a cryptocurrency is an enemy of the ideal of decentralization.
Our goal of creating a community-based competitor to Zcash has been achieved and we are now transitioning into a period of active software development. We have plans for a fork called Bitcoin Private, which has nearly identical parameters but introduces the UTXO set from Bitcoin.
