All the files associated with creating a webtool to assess the cost of decentralized water treatment options
Notes about the data:
- The building shapefile data comes from a github repository that is maintained by Microsoft as part of their US Building Footprints database. Everytime the code is run it will draw from the most up to date building data on their github page
- The shapefiles for us aquifers come from the USGS groundwater data downloaded in 2021
- The elevation data comes from the py3dep package, which is directly connected to the USGS 3D elevation program
- The cost numbers are all specific to Uniontown, Alabama in 2023. The paper "Optimizing Scale for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment: A Tool to Address Failing Wastewater Infrastructure in the United States" gives the exact methodology as to how we came up with the cost numbers (eventually we will need to link the cost numbers to a database which is regularly maintained and updated).
- The final tool for creating wastewater collection networks for any location in the contingous US along with the correspond documentation is in the Final_Deliverable_WWTool.zip file. This tool uses the cost numbers for uniontown Alabama. If you want to make the costing accurate for other locations you should add an input for local costing numbers or link it to the RS Means database for each state.
- The demo for designing an optimal wastewater collection and water distribution network is in the Water Reuse and Decentralized WWTP Final.zip file. This code has an existing network where it sites the location of wwtp, sites the location of water treatment plants, sizes the pipes for both distribution and collection, and decides the volume of water to take from ground water, surface water, and water reuse sources. It currently is runing for a 10 node demo system.
