The Basemap used in your application is based on the Basemap you include in your ArcGIS Online webmap. To use an ESRI or WRI Basemap, please make sure the name of the Basemap in your webmap matches the standard name shown below.

Esri Basemaps

GFW MapBuilder supports a variety of Esri Basemap choices. Esri Vector Basemaps are not supported. Currently supported basemaps include:

  1. Topographic
  2. Imagery
  3. Imagery with labels
  4. Streets
  5. Dark gray canvas
  6. Light gray canvas
  7. National Geographic
  8. Terrain with labels
  9. Oceans
  10. OpenStreetMap
  11. USGS national map
  12. USA topo maps

WRI Basemaps

GFW MapBuilder supports two WRI Basemaps:

WRI basemaps are not available in ARcGIS Online basemap gallery. To use these basemaps, follow the steps below:

  1. In your ArcGIS Online webmap, click on Add and select add Layer from web
  2. Select add a tile layer and the url for the basemap you would like to use by default
  1. Check the box which says use as basemap
  2. For the title, specify the name of your basemap (WRI Contextual or WRI Mono). For credits, specify Mapbox/OpenStreetMaps.

Once you have completed these steps save your map and your MapBuilder application will now use the WRI Basesemap by default.

Using Your Own Basemap

In addition to the Esri and WRI basemaps, you can also use your own custom basemap. Please note that Vector Tile Basemaps are currently not supported.

Workflow

  1. Create an ArcGIS Online Web Map that uses your desired basemap. Custom basemap may contain multiple layers.
  2. Your basemap will be available in the application's left panel selection.
  3. The name of your basemap in MapBuilder will match the name of the basemap in ArcGIS Online.
