This adds type hints to the code generation part. I also used the opportunity to remove some redundant code. This hopefully makes it a bit easier to modify the code generation which I aim to do soon to implement #2854.
As it still generates the exact same Altair code (which is also tested in the PR checks), I'll merge this once all tests pass without a review.
