VM freezes when scrolling on macOS #5254
Comments
+1 The issue has been present since (at least) v4.1.x. In v4.1.x, the VM would hang and then become responsive again after a few seconds when I tried to scroll with the mouse. I updated my app to v4.2.5 today, and now the VM hangs and does not become responsive again unless I halt and restart it. @chaos215bar2, as a workaround until this is fixed, I've found that clicking and dragging on scroll bars does not cause the VM to crash. |
Any update about this issue ? |
Seems to be working for me with MacOS Sonoma (using a trackpad but with the "Use Trackpad" option disabled in the system settings). I think that the older versions of MacOS still don't work, though. |
I'm seeing the same freezes running Ventura (13.0) in 4.4.5, irrespective of the trackpad/generic mouse setting. |
I'm also seeing these freezes using UTM 4.4.5 on Sonoma (14.4) with a VM running macOS Monterey (12.6) |
Same issue. For me, the freezes are particularly bad if I scroll in VSCode, but rarely occur if I scroll in Firefox. |
UTM Version 4.4.5 (94): |
this is killing me |
I tried different versions of Ubuntu (18.04, 20.04 and 22.04) and it freezes on all of them on M1 mac. Any thoughts on how to fix this will be very helpful. |
Tried ubuntu 20, 22, and 33. All of them freezing. Tried Fedora 39, no
freezing. Firefox eats all memory on Fedora 39 though, and freeze the vm
for maybe a minute before crashing X, but Brave browser works fine.

Any update on this? |
Same issue on M2 mac mini on Sequoia. At least 10x a day. |
same happened to my M1 pro, driving me nuts as well ; ( |
Seeing this on an M1 macbook pro in a 15.1 VM. Sufficient memory is allocated. Periodic freezing on scrolling then it comes back after a couple seconds. |
UTM4.5.10,Host Sequoia 15.2, Guest Sequoia 15.1.1, apple backend |
I'm running UTM 4.2.5 on macOS 13.3.1, with the guest VM running the same version of macOS. The VM freezes instantly any time I try to scroll, even on the login screen.
