Alex wants to play a game of Catan with their friends. While logged into the ChiGame website, Alex navigates to the “Create a Lobby” tab. Here, they find a form which asks for the game they want to play. Upon selecting Catan, a series of other fields appear, specific to Catan, allowing Alex to tweak the match to their preferences. These fields have default values and Alex only adds 30 seconds to the turn timer. There is an optionally null field at the bottom of the form which asks Alex to specify any friends they would like an automatically generated invite to.
Sam wants to play a game of Catan while sitting in class. Sam decides that they will just join a random group of players (all of Sam’s friends are paying attention). Sam navigates to the “Live Lobbies” tab of the ChiGame website, where they find a view that aggregates all the live lobbies on the website currently. Sam can see a list of lobby names; moreover, (1) the lobby’s game, (2) the number of players in the lobby, and (3) the time until the match starts are featured centrally. Sam searches this page for lobbies with “advanced” in their name. Sam then filters the listings so that only lobbies for Catan appear on the page. Finally, Sam sorts the lobby in order of the number of players in the lobby.
Alex finds a lobby for Codenames that they want to know more about. After clicking on the lobby name, Alex is directed to a page for the lobby, where they see their two friends who are in the lobby, of the three users in the lobby (Alex can’t see the third user’s information). Alex also sees that the turn timers for the instance of Codenames played in this lobby are set to 15 seconds; although it is the only game parameter that has been tweaked, Alex closes the window to find another lobby.
Joan receives an invite link to a lobby from a friend. After clicking on the link, they are brought to the detailed view of the lobby. The lobby is neither full, nor has the match start timer run out. Joan is already logged-in, and so they click the “Join Lobby” button on the screen. A window appears, confirming that Joan is in the lobby, prompting Joan to share the lobby link with other people.
Alex is not logged-in; when he goes to click a “Join Lobby” button on a lobby details page, he is redirected to the login page.
Dan wants to spectate a lobby and its match(es). Dan uses the same steps as Sam to find a lobby that they are interested in. After clicking on the lobby name, Dan is directed to a detailed view of the lobby. The lobby is full, but the match start timer has not run out. Dan is logged in, so clicking the "Spectate Lobby" button on the screen takes him into the lobby, prompting Dan to share the lobby link with other people. There is a status banner at the top of his page, indicating that he is a spectator.
Sam joins a lobby, but wants to poke around the ChiGame website. After they close out of the lobby detail window, Sam notices that there is a banner across the top of the site, informing them that they are currently in a lobby, with the lobby’s name and the lobby’s time-to-start. Sam, upon clicking on the banner, is returned to the relevant lobby details page.
Joan created a lobby for checkers with their friend, but realizes that they have dinner obligations and will not have time for the match. From the lobby details page, Joan sees that where the “Join Lobby” button is normally is a “Leave Lobby” button. After clicking on it, Joan sees that they are no longer in the lobby, but that the lobby still exists. Joan’s friend then leaves–the last person in the lobby–at which point the lobby no longer appears on the lobby aggregation page.
Alex is in a lobby when it fills up. Even though there is another 40 seconds on the lobby’s time-to-start timer, Alex is redirected to the match.
Sam is in a lobby when the time-to-start timer for the match runs out. The lobby isn’t empty, but the number of users is less than the minimum needed for the game Sam wants to play. Sam is on the lobby details page when he is redirected to the lobby aggregation page.
Dan is spectating a lobby when the time-to-start timer for the match runs out. The lobby is full, and the match starts for the actively-involved players in the lobby. Dan receives a prompt on screen that asks whether he would like to spectate the current match. Dan clicks "Yes", which redirects Dan to the match, with a "spectator status" displayed at the top of his screen.
Alex wins his match against Nat. After displaying a victory message, his screen gives him a "Exit Lobby" button, with a 60-second countdown. Alex does not click on the button, and the 60-second timer runs out. Alex is redirected to the lobby aggregate page.
After exiting the lobby entirely, Alex wants to check his match statistics. Alex clicks on his user profile and navigates to "Match Statistics". Going to this page displays the match information (refer to next section for more detailed info). Alex can choose to organize the statistics by Date/Time
or by Game
.
Alexa and Simon start a match for Chess, which must have exactly two players. Alexa plays white and Simon plays black. Alexa wins and Simon loses. After the match, Alexa checks the match statistics. She sees the date and time the match was played, that she played Chess with Simon, that she played white and Simon played black, and that she won. She can also view a live replay of the match, showing the moves she and Simon made each turn.
Connor, Finn, and Zach start a match for Munchkin, which can have as few as three players and as many as six. Finn takes his turn first. In the final turn of the game, Finn and Connor are both in the ninth room, are both playing the Cleric class, and both have the card Divine Intervention in hand. Typically, only one person in Munchkin wins, when that person advances to the tenth and final room. However, in this game, both Finn and Connor play the Divine Intervention card, so that Finn and Connor both win and Zach loses. After the match, Finn checks the match statistics. He sees the date and time the match was played, that he played Munchkin with Connor and Zach, and that he won via a Divine Intervention victory, Connor won via a Divine Intervention victory, and Zach lost. Connor can also see the turn order and the rooms to which everyone advanced per round.
Matt and Marisha start a match for Galaxy Trucker, which can be played with as few as two players and as many as four. In Galaxy Trucker, players progress through three rounds, in which they must build a small, medium, and large spaceship under a time limit, then compete with each other to see who can earn more credits. Whoever has the most credits after three rounds wins. Matt wins round one with 12 credits while Marisha loses with 9. Marisha wins round two with 18 credits while Matt loses with 17. Marisha wins round three (and the game) with 29 credits while Matt loses with 25. After the match, Marisha checks the match statistics. She sees the date and time the match was played, that she played Galaxy Trucker with Matt, and that she won and Matt lost. Marisha can also see the spaceships she and Matt built and the credits they earned each round.
Sylvie, Simon, Red, and Yves start a match for Root, which can be played with as few as two players and as many as six. They choose to play on the Mountain Map. Sylvie plays as the Woodland Alliance, Simon plays as the Keepers in Iron, Red plays as the Eyrie, and Yves plays as the Lizard Cult. Sylvie rolls highest and therefore takes her turn first. After six turns, Simon scores 31 points, making him the first person to exceed 30 points and therefore the winner (all others lose). After the match, Simon checks the match statistics. He sees the date and time the match was played, that he played Root with Sylvie, Red, and Yves, the factions played by each person, and that he won via a Points Victory. Simon can also see the turn order, how many points each person scored per round, and the map they played on.
Sylvie, Simon, Red, and Yves start another match for Root. They choose to play on the Forest Map. Sylvie plays as the Vagabond, Simon plays as the Corvid Conspiracy, Red plays as the Riverfolk Company, and Yves plays as the Lord of the Hundreds. Sylvie plays a Dominance card to form a coalition with Yves, an option which only the Vagabond has access to. Yves later wins with 32 points, causing Sylvie to win as well (all others lose). After the match, Sylvie checks the match statistics. She sees that she won via a Coalition Victory with Yves, and that Yves won via a Points Victory.
Ben, Sully, Adam, Laurie, Blair, Brooke, Holly, Isaac, Dom, Carley, and Angela start a match for Blood on the Clocktower. Blood on the Clocktower can be played with as few as five players and as many as twenty. Ben is the storyteller (that is, he runs the game) and is playing the Sentinel, a Fabled role (a storyteller role which cannot win or lose). Carley, Sully, and Holly are evil and Adam, Laurie, Blair, Brooke, Isaac, Dom, and Angela are good. Carley is the demon and Sully and Holly are her minions. Brooke is an Outsider. Adam is the Farmer, Laurie is the Poppy Grower, Blair is the Balloonist, Brooke is the Snitch, Isaac is the Fisherman, Dom is the King, and Angela is the General. The demon bluffs are Sailor, Pixie, and Choirboy. The last players left alive are Carley, Holly, and Laurie, so evil wins. After the match, Sully checks the match statistics. He sees the date and time the match was played, who he played Blood on the Clocktower with and what their roles were, that the evil players (including him) won, and the good players lost. Sully can also see the starting layout (or the “script”) for the game. Ben also checks the match statistics. He sees that he was the Storyteller (and therefore neither won nor lost).
Stella, Grant, and Zaya have decided to start a Gloomhaven campaign. Gloomhaven is a long-running legacy game in which multiple groups can play within the same world and the actions of each group will affect the state of the world. A campaign can be composed of multiple sessions. A group can be composed of as few as two players and as many as four. Stella is playing the Brute, Grant is playing the Mindthief, and Zaya is playing the Scoundrel. All characters are currently level 1, have 0 XP and 0 gold, and have selected no perks. For the match, the players pick a Scenario (a map with preset enemies and loot), a difficulty level for the Scenario, and a place to start (in the City or in the Scenario). Stella, Grant, and Zaya decide to play Scenario #1: Black Barrow on difficulty level 1, and to start in the City. Because they start in the City, they first pull a City Event from the City Event deck. The event pulled gives the Gloomhaven world they are playing in +1 prosperity. Then, they choose to buy items in the City shops. Stella buys a War Hammer (Item #010), Grant buys the Boots of Striding (Item #001) and a Minor Stamina Potion (Item #013), and Zaya buys a Minor Stamina Potion (Item #013). They must then pull a Road Event from the Road Event deck. The event pulled gives the party 5 collective gold, which they must split between themselves. After beating the scenario, Stella gains 40 XP and 31 gold, Grant gains 45 XP and 29 gold, and Zaya gains 26 XP and 27 gold. Zaya also opens the treasure chest, unlocking the design for the Horned Helm, which will now be available for purchase in shops in the Gloomhaven world. Grant has earned enough XP to level up: he selects a level two card to swap out for one of the level one cards in his starting deck, and selects a perk for his character. Furthermore, Zaya has fulfilled her Battle Goal, earning her three check marks and therefore the chance to select a perk for her character, which she goes. The match ends.
After the match, Grant checks the match statistics. He can see World Statistics, Party Statistics, and Character Statistics. Under World Statistics, he can see that Gloomhaven gained 1 prosperity and that the Horned Helm item was unlocked. Under Party Statistics, he can see that the party beat the Black Barrow scenario. Under Character Statistics, he can see his items, his experience, his level, his perks, and his gold.
