Summary of investigation:

  • the seg fault was not from Burn
  • seg fault was due to a new version of mesa drivers
  • wgpu repo CI files are a great source to detect changes in such dependencies
  • issue fixed by applying the changes made in the wgpu repo: Use Custom Mesa for Building gfx-rs/wgpu#4977
