Welcome to the official tool documentation, here you'll find information on the current tools available in PixaPencil.

Pencil tool

The pencil tool is the most basic and simple tool you'll find in the app. It functions exactly how a regular pencil tool might function in another pixel art application such as Aseprite.

To use the tool, simply tap, and while holding your finger on the screen, move it (your finger) to draw your desired path. If the result is too pixelated for your liking, then your canvas size may be too small.

Fill tool

The fill tool 'fills' adjacent pixels which are similar in color value with the user's selected color. This tool is useful when you might want to color in large areas inside your projects.

Line tool

Using Bresenham's line algorithm, the line tool gives you the ability to draw pixelated lines.

Rectangle tool

The rectangle tool gives you the ability to draw filled or outlined rectangles.

Square tool

The square tool gives you the ability to draw filled or outlined squares. It functions similarly to the rectangle tool, the only difference is that it allows you to draw perfect squares.

Circle tool

The square tool gives you the ability to draw filled or outlined circles using a modified midpoint circle algorithm.

Spray tool

The spray tool helps with simulating real life spray paint, but in pixel art form. By tapping on the spray paint icon (as demonstrated in the video below), the user can further refine the tool's 'Radius' and 'Strength' values.

Polygon tool

The polygon tool allows you to draw polygonal paths by clicking on coordinates on the canvas. To start a new path, simply tap on the polygon icon (as demonstrated in the video below).

Dither tool

The dither tool allows you to draw checkerboard patterns. You will find this tool in many other pixel art apps, as it's renowned for its usefulness in shading or simply creating patterns. (Note that I am using a thicker brush for the video demonstration.)

Shading tool

The shading tool - as the name suggests - allows you to darken/lighten certain areas on the canvas. Simply tap on the tool icon to change shading modes (from lighten to darken or darken to lighten).
