Covid19-SARS-CoV-2

Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) coronavirus information // on May 18, 2020

MAPS
Maps show the global distrributions, infection rates, death rates per country our county/provence

Coronavirus Surface surivival time
How long does the coronavirus survive on air, plastics, steel and other surfaces (up to 24 hours on cardboard to up to two or three days on plastic and stainless steel)

Death rates
Death rates depend on age and country including rapid responses and health service services provided. Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) currently most severly affects those with an age of 50 and older

Detection and sequencing
There are several PCR based detection techniques available.

Treatments and drugs available
There are several drugs that are recommended by the CDC (US) that can be used for current and immediate treatment of specific viral infectionns, including SARS and COVID. They include remdesivir, lopinavir and ritonavir. Other drugs include antiretorvirals such as Ribavirin. However they do only work in specific cases and for specific strains.

  • Sciencemag aritcle on UC Davis Medical Center (Sacramento) treatment by Dr. George Thompson treating a patient sucesfully with remdesivir intravenously administered (https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/did-experimental-drug-help-us-coronavirus-patient)
  • CAS review article on key proteins, targets and drugs [Review] - Research and Development on Therapeutic Agents and Vaccines for COVID-19 and Related Human Coronavirus Diseases (March 12 2020)
  • [GHHDI WIKI] - repository of compound libraries, drugs and treatments for COVID-19. GHDDI (The Global Health Drug Discovery Institute) was jointly founded by Tsinghua University, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Beijing Municipal Government.

Future drugs
There are a number of expermimental drugs and future drugs available such as DNA based medication including INO-4800 and RNA based drugs such as mRNA-1273. Companies include Medicago, Johnson & Johnson. CureVac as well as INOVIO Pharmaceuticals.
