Combine navigation.tabs and sections folding

My documentation is composed of several chapters. Each chapter should be displayed on the nav top bar. Then the sections would be rendered on the left toc.

How to reproduce

I use awesome-pages normally, but without the plugin I get the same result. Here my mkdocs.yml:

In my configuration if I enable navigation.tabs get the desired result with the top navbar. However I loose the folding/unfolding feature on the left toc.

Would it be possible to combine both?

If I remove the md-nav__item--section from the elements I see the arrows, but then the title isn't bold anymore.

I think I might need to see a minimal reproduction to understand what you mean and figure out what is going on. One question I would have is whether you define the navigation in mkdocs.yml or let it be generated from the directory structure.

It certainly is possible to have both the tabs and have sections fold out and in again. See, for example, the tutorials in the getting started tab.

I edited my issue with more information. I am normally using awesome-pages but for this test I used a standard nav in mkdocs.yml.

You have navigation.sections turned on, which would explain why the sections are not folded when you se tabs. The setting affects top-level sections only, which is also what you see when tabs are turned off.
