What about recipe to automate server deployment?

Which system community prefer?

If chef is good enough I can write something like this recipe .

I do not have a preference between Chef and Puppet. In my opinion, neither is clearly better and they hold about equal mindshare in the market.

If you were to create a similar repo to the gitlab recipe I would be trilled. We would be willing to link to it from the wiki so people can find it.
