Solution:
Downgrading the scattermore package to v0.8 resolves the issue.
It seems that the recent version of scattermore does not accept a vector for pointsize parameter in the geom_scattermore function. When no cells are set to be highlighted, only one number is assigned to pointsize by Seurat. However, when a vector of cells is set to be highlighted the SetHighlight inner function returns a vector of pointsizes which in turn is passed to geom_scattermore.
