Support rmeta inputs for --crate-type=bin --emit=obj #138175
base: master
Are you sure you want to change the base?
Conversation
This already works for --emit=metadata, but is possible anytime we're not linking. Tests: `rmeta_bin` checks we're not changing --emit=link (already passes) `rmeta_bin-pass` tests the new behavior for --emit=obj (would fail today) and also --emit=metadata which isn't changing

Seems reasonable, but I would like to know if there is any additional context here. E.g. is this in response to a filed issue or something like that? Or is it just something you noticed? Thanks. |
We link some mixed-language binaries with an external linker, using I'm aware this is unsupported territory, and when it breaks we keep both pieces, but this change seems generally useful/correct without adding complexity. |
