qmd file not rendering for book page-footer

I have a section in my _quarto.yml file that contains:

book:
  page-footer:
    center: 
      - text: "License"
        href: license.qmd

Where license.qmd is a super simple qmd file. This matches the example here. However when I try to render or preview the entire book, this page does not render, and it displays the actual qmd file instead of a rendered html file. Any suggestions?

It's possible we're not auto-discovering references in the footer. Can you try adding

::: {.content-hidden}
[license](license.qmd)
:::

to your index.qmd? If this fixes the issue, then please use that workaround, and we'll fix that bug soon.

I gave that a try but it still seems to be failing to render. I can see that it is adding a license.qmd file to the _book directory, but no corresponding html.

For books in particular, we are missing the files that are referenced by the footer. Our next pre-release build of Quarto 1.3 will include a fix for this- thank you for letting us know!
