in quarto book, why is META-DESCRIPTION posted on top of every page?

Hi there,
I am creating a book, and I added a "description" in the _quarto.yaml file.
Now, the HTML file contains a META Descritpion entry, but, additionally, the text of that description is posted on top of every page of the book.

My question is: why is that, and is there a way to turn it off?

Try indenting the description under the book (if it is a book description you are providing). When you provide a description at the root level, it is merged with every individual page, so each page acts as if it has that description metadata.

No matter where I place a description, wether in quarto.yml or on a Single Page:

The description is in a meta field (which is as expected) but aditionally the description text is printed on top of the Page (which is NOT as expected).

Could you share an example of the _quarto.yml file that is causing this? I tested it under the book key and wasn't able to reproduce the issue:

@dragonstyle Are abstract and description the same thing for a book project? I'm noticing somewhat similar behaviour. I would expect the abstract to appear on the first page, but not at the top of every other page.

It's a little confusing as the formatting is not significantly different and it reads like the first paragraph on every page.

@produnis this should be fixed in 1.2 version which is currently available as pre-release (fixed by #2286)

Has this "bug" returned in Version 1.2.313? "Abstract" and "Published" again show up on all pages and not only on the index.html page.

Did you try put the abstract under the book key as a Book metadata ?
https://quarto.org/docs/reference/projects/books.html#meta-project-type-upper

By putting it under format, it will apply on all the html page rendered with this format as it is not seen a book meta.

I see you use abstract-title - I don't know if we support that for book yet. If it is supported on individual page meta, we should support at book level maybe.

Can you try moving under book in your _quarto.yml ?

Thank you!!! Putting the abstract under the book section (and deleting it from the format section) worked. abstract-title does not work. But I used a custom.css to tackle this issue.
