Approximate POMDP Planning (APPL) Toolkit Copyright (c) 2008-2010 by National University of Singapore. APPL is a C++ implementation of the SARSOP algorithm [1], using the factored MOMDP representation [2]. It takes as input a POMDP model in the POMDP or POMDPX file format and produces a policy file. It also contains a simple simulator for evaluating the quality of the computed policy. More information can be found at http://motion.comp.nus.edu.sg/projects/pomdp/pomdp.html. Currently APPL will assume 1G physical memory for Mac OS X. If your physical memory size is different, use "--memory" command-line option to set the correct memory limit. - For Mac using PowerPC processor, remove the option "-msse2 -mfpmath=sse" from CFLAGS in src/Makefile. * Windows The Visual Studio port is experimental. The generated binaries may behave differently from its Linux counterpart. For Visual Studio 2010, refer to FAQ at http://bigbird.comp.nus.edu.sg/pmwiki/farm/appl/index.php?n=Main.FAQ for more information ======================================================================== QUICK START ======================================================================== * For Linux or Windows (Cygwin), at the top-level directory, type the commands: gunzip appl-v0.91.tar.gz tar -xvf appl-v0.91.tar cd appl-v0.91/src make A total of 4 executables are generated in the current directory. "pomdpsol" computes a policy. "pomdpsim" is the policy simulator. "pomdpeval" is the policy evaluator. "polgraph" outputs a graphical representation of a policy. "pomdpconvert" converts a POMDP model file to POMDPX file format. Please read "doc/Usage.txt" for command-line options. - Try solving an example problem. Type the command: ./pomdpsol ../examples/POMDPX/Tiger.pomdpx The generated policy is written to "out.policy" by default. - Try simulating a policy. Type the command: ./pomdpsim --simLen 100 --simNum 1000 --policy-file out.policy ../examples/POMDPX/Tiger.pomdpx The simulation results are written to the console. - Try evaluating a policy. Type the command: ./pomdpeval --simLen 100 --simNum 1000 --policy-file out.policy ../examples/POMDPX/Tiger.pomdpx The evaluation results are written to the console. - Try generating a graphical representation of a policy . Type the command: ./polgraph --policy-file out.policy --policy-graph tiger.dot ../examples/POMDPX/Tiger.pomdpx The generated graph is written to "tiger.dot". You can view the output "tiger.dot" using Graphviz (http://www.graphviz.org/). A pdf file generated from "tiger.dot" is in "../examples/POMDPX/tiger.pdf". - Try converting a POMDP file to POMDPX file format: ./pomdpconvert ../examples/POMDP/Tiger.pomdp The generated POMDPX file is in the same directory as the POMDP model file.
