This only (ever, seemingly) served to obscure unrelated TypeErrors
occurring during engine initialization.

Restore native support for launching JVM processes with
nailgun
. @patricklaw will follow up to actually experiment with using this support (and will likely expose plenty of bugs in it! sorry).This reverts commit e19336d.
