Introduction

Remote pad is a poly-functional device made by panStamp to integrate with other systems through ISM radio. This device is powered from a single CR2032 coin battery and features four push buttons that can be programmed to transmit custom packets to any remote device. Remote pad also includes an on-board accelerometer and a temperature sensor, making this little piece of hardware much more than a simple remote commander.

Remote pad

Remote pad can be used to open doors, control lights or connect to the cloud through lagarto-swap or liberiot. Once in the cloud, remote pad can be used to send pre-programmed messages via Telegram, Twitter or e-mail and also to trigger events on Node-RED or IFTTT. Remote pad can also be integrated into any professional software by means of MQTT or HTTP.

Pinout and ports

Remote pad comes fully assembled with an on-board panStamp NRG module and the enclosure. This device can be ordered for the 863-873 MHz or the 902-928 MHz bands. The board can be programmed through the bottom pin row available on one of the board edges:

A panStick or any other USB-UART(3.3V) converter with DTR and RTS can be used to program the board. Otherwise, users can ask panStamp to program remote pad with the remote4 application for wither SWAP (lagart-swap) or GWAP (liberiot).

Hardware specifications

  • PCB Size: 1.01 x 2.26 in (26 x 58 mm)
  • 4 push buttons with plastic enclosure
  • MMA8652FC 3-axis accelerometer
  • 10KOhm NTC temperature sensor
  • CR2032 battery holder
  • PCB antenna for 863-873 MHz or 902-928 MHz

Available sketches

Both SWAP-enabled and GWAP-enabled applications provide detection for any button press along with temperature measurement and motion detection. All this information is transmitted on a single SWAP/GWAP frame, either periodically based on the internal Tx interval parameter value and asynchronously based on any button or motion event.

In order to save battery, motion is allowed to trigger events only once per Tx interval cycle.
