[Remove] deprecated getMapping API from IndicesClient #2262

mappings belong the deprecated type named object and removes the types based
methods from the affected request classes.

I think we should try to handle the numMappings a bit more gracefully, generalizing for numMappings > 0

if (numMappings > 0) { for (int j = 0; j < numMappings; j++) { String type = in.readString(); ... } |

Assertions could be turned off, so we would fail with unconsumed input stream after (potentially) when focusing on 0 or 1 case.

But there can't be more than 1 mapping. Which is why there's the assertion. It's true that assertions could be disabled so I think maybe it's better to just throw an exception instead. If a user provides more than one mapping I think it's better to fail early than continue to consume in the for loop? I also think an informative exception ("Expected 0 or 1 mappings but got...") is a better experience than esoteric unconsumed input errors.

May be In this case throw IllegalStateException if numMappings is not 0 or 1, at least we will fail with better cause?
