@laurenguido, thanks for your submission to JOSS. I'm afraid this cannot be published here in its current form. In particular, the software is not meeting these submission requirements:

In addition, JOSS requires that software should be feature-complete (i.e., no half-baked solutions), packaged appropriately according to common community standards for the programming language being used (e.g., Python, R), and designed for maintainable extension (not one-off modifications of existing tools). “Minor utility” packages, including “thin” API clients, and single-function packages are not acceptable.

As Python software, our expectation is that this should be presented as a Python package (e.g., PIP installable) rather than a collection of scripts.

As this is a major reworking of this work, I'm going to reject the submission now and encourage a re-submission if you decided to make these changes.
