@NatashaBertaina Dear author, thanks for this submission. I am the AEiC on this track and here to help process the initial steps. I have briefly reviewed the paper and the repository. Unfortunately this work is currently not conforming to JOSS standards. I will therefore proceed to reject this submission.

Major issues/concerns:

  • The project and repository looks immature/incomplete, for instance it lacks a README.
  • Links documentation and testing appear are missing. Unclear if documentation and automated testing are provided at all.
  • Your project appears to lack contributing guidelines at the moment. Please work to add these and to mention/link to them in your README. You could for instance create a CONTRIBUTING.md file (see here for some examples: https://contributing.md/example/).
  • For web applications, having a demo site deployed is good. Add this and link to it in the README if possible.
  • The work appears to assist in teaching/training. However JOSS is for "scientific research software", the application to research for this work is not clear. Perhaps check if a journal like https://jose.theoj.org/ would be better. If JOSS remains your choice, then the application to scientific research should be made more clear.

Minor other points:

  • Please study the above reference check ☝️ and see if you can address any of the reported potential DOI issues. You can add/amend DOI entries in your .bib file, and call @editorialbot check references here to check them again.
  • Clarifying in the paper/README/descriptions that this is human training/teaching as opposed to AI/ML related training would be good.

Any potential re-submission should clearly address all the above points. However, given the relatively small size, the web-based functionality, and focus on education/training, it is likely it will be flagged for potentially being out of scope.
