According to stefano-k's words ( mate-desktop/mate-indicator-applet#1 (comment) ), the keyboard layouts icon is managed by mate-settings-daemon, therefore I'm filing an issue here.

Currently I have mate-settings-daemon running (see Proof 1), but no kbd layouts indicator icon is visible in the tray area.

Proof 1:

ps auxwww|grep mate-settings-daemon
1000 1975 0.0 0.2 40268 4612 ? Sl 19:11 0:00 /usr/bin/mate-settings-daemon
1000 1977 0.0 0.0 31048 1764 ? S 19:11 0:00 /usr/bin/mate-settings-daemon
1000 5979 0.0 0.0 5616 840 pts/0 S+ 20:28 0:00 grep --color=auto mate-settings-daemon

lsb_release -rdc; uname -a
Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise
Linux egpdesktop 3.2.0-24-generic-pae #37-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 25 10:47:59 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

When I open System/Parameters/Kbd, I have two kbd layouts specified: USA and Russian.

If you have any questions, please ask.

You should have only one mate-settings-daemon running. Can you check autostart applications?

  1. I checked System/Parameters/Autostart, there is a single /usr/bin/mate-settings-daemon entry (I was looking by eye).
  2. "cat /etc/xdg/autostart/* | grep mate-settings" yields a single line "Exec=/usr/bin/mate-settings-daemon".
  3. What other locations should I search?

~/.config/autostart/

.. gajim.desktop python.desktop
bluetooth-applet.desktop gnome-screensaver.desktop quodlibet.desktop

cat ~/.config/autostart/*|grep mate
(empty output)

I can't duplicate the issue on LMDE using Debian testing and tridex repos. Maybe it's something wrong with Precise?

egphilippov, is gnome-settings-daemon also running?

I can't check. i reinstalled Precise and Mate from scratch, and this issue doesn't trigger anymore.

I can close this then?

Ok, I close. If it will trigger in the future, I will re-open.
