Simplify API (#5)

* In-progress refactoring.

* Further cleaning up code.

* Made file ops sync to reduce thread spawning overhead.

* Changed test action to run on every push (not just to main)

* Fixed a few doc typos.

* Improved server logging.

* Improved docs a bit
