Yeah, if we guard it like in this PR then we can maintain compatibility with Kokkos master and Kokkos develop as discussed previously. I tested this locally by building against the release candidate branch of Kokkos Core. Let's see what the CI thinks of it? |

Compatibility upgrade: adding compatibility branch in code with the
#ifdefintroduced, the code will compile against 4.0.0 and develop versions of Kokkos Core.
