#What is Playground Earth?# At it's core, Playground Earth is essentially an online, cooperative Google Earth viewer. Players will be able to open up the page in their browser, and immediately explore the world around them through the Google Earth viewer. They can fly over Mount Everest, explore the streets of San Francisco, or even explore their childhood neighborhood. The playable area in this game is one that we are all familiar with: Earth.
But besides just being a Google Earth viewer, Playground Earth will be a Google Earth playground. Players who are logged in to the website will have their location sent to other players in the same room, so that you will be able to see where other players are.
This central database of player locations can also be leveraged to create activities that can take place inside the viewer. Since the server be aware of each player's location in the world, different location-based activities could theoretically be added to change the way players explore the world.
Perhaps you want to race your friends on the actual Talladega Superspeedway? Or maybe you would like to jump in with your friends and take a virtual tour of Disney's Epcot center, where each ride is accompanied with tidbits of information. These are just some of the examples of ways that fellow developers can expand upon the basic idea of collaborative world exploration, and engage players in it.
