FAQ
Before you ask someone for help, be sure to check out this list of frequently-asked questions. If you have a question that is not answered here (or on one of the other pages), feel free to ask! (your question may even be added here!)
Type %help
. For more info about a command, and a list of its subcommands, type %<command> help
(ex: %tag help
). This works for every command and every subcommand.
Try %[insert command here] help
(ex: %server help
). If you have a question about one of the subcommands, check the help for that subcommand too! (ex: %tag create help
or %contest list help
)
Those actually aren't commands at all, they're imported tags (aka tag commands). Check out %tag import help
or Creating a Custom Command (using Tags) for more info on imported tags.
There are a few ways to do this. If you do %ignore add channel <channel_name>
(ex: %ignore add channel general
), the bot will ignore all commands (except moderators and admins) in that channel. This is recommended for any channels that you don't want the bot to be used in at all.
If you're looking to restrict bot usage in a channel but not disable it completely, there are a few things you can do:
- Disable a command -
%cmd disable <commandname>
- This disables the command server-wide - Add
{commandname}
to a channel topic - This enables the command in that channel, even if the command is disabled for the server - Add
{-commandname}
to a channel topic - This disables the command in that channel, even if the command is enabled for the server - Add
{-all}
to a channel topic - This disables all commands in a channel (except any that have{commandname}
in the same channel topic. Note: This is only recommended if you have a channel where you only want to allow 1 or 2 commands. So, you channel topic might include{-all}{profile}
which would disable all commands except profile in that channel
Anyone with the Manage Server permission on your server has access to both Admin and Moderator commands. To add additional Moderators (for the Moderator-level commands), Admins can use the %mod
command. If a role is added to the moderator list, all users with that role can use the Moderator commands. For example, if you have a role called "Bot Commander" that you give to your server's moderators, you could use %mod add role Bot Commander
to allow users with that role to use the Moderator commands.
There are a number of reasons why the bot might not respond to a command. Here are some of them:
- The bot is offline - If this is the case, it is probably being updated. However, the bot is almost always online
- The bot is loading or idling - If the bot was recently offline and just came online, it has to load data for all servers before it can take any commands. If the bot's status is the yellow "away" status or red "do not disturb", it is ignoring all commands (this is rare, and only used for maintenence)
- The prefix was incorrect - If you think a command should have worked but it didn't, try again but with the prefix
%
. Each server can set up the prefix list however they want, but%
is a permanent prefix that cannot be removed. - The command name was incorrect - Check your spelling! If you don't know the spelling, try
%help
to see the command in the list. - You don't have permission - If you don't have permission to run a command, the bot will ignore you if you try to use them.
- The channel, role, or user is ignored - Server admins can set up channels, roles, and users to ignore; If you are not a moderator or higher, you will be affected by these
- You or the server is blacklisted - While rare, abuse of the bot can lead to being put on a blacklist, in which case all commands will be ignored
- The bot had an error - While hopefully this never happens, there are certainly still bugs in the code somewhere, and on rare occasions could be a potential reason for the bot to not respond.
First, double check that it's not actually answered here. Then, if you're positive, ask on the official help and support server, Spectra Lounge: https://discord.gg/7eTWSN3
