A lot of contractors install new heat pumps, but leave in the old furnace/boiler to serve as the backup heat. HPXML doesn't currently handle that well. There are controls within the HPXML node to specify backup fuel, efficiency, and capacity, but these are best used for an integrated backup. I propose adding new elements that allow specification of integrated vs separate backup and an IDREF to the backup system.
