This Helium Improvement Proposal (HIP) addresses several shortcomings of HIP 0113 and the potential underlying reversal strategies. The indended actions are to strategically reverse HIP 113's inherent shortsided narrative undermines CBRS's utility by the network, CBRS deployers and Helium Mobile customers.

This HIP introduces a multi-faceted strategy to protect investments in Citizen Band Radio Spectrum (CBRS) radios, optimize Proof-of-Coverage (PoC) rewards, and expand Helium's capabilities through multi-carrier approaches and efficient data offloading. It focuses on supporting rural last-mile deployments to bridge connectivity gaps while mitigating potential abuse of the PoC reward system in other environments.

A Section is missing:
Implementation:
Basically who is going to pay to Implement this for a network that only a few people use and the expansion is Rural Areas without high numbers of possible subscribers. "Helium" isn't an entity that will do this, you need an entity with funds and or time.

I have added some implementation steps to the HIP. Updated original and my patch-1 repository.

Could you respond here or message me on discord please? I need some communication on this.

There are a number of problems with this HIP, but if the authors are open to joining mobile working group on Thursday, I am supportive of having an open discussion.

HIPs are meant to propose new economic changes to the network. Not killing CBRS = voting no on HIP 139. This HIP in particular, is not really a HIP, but more of a public complaint and a collection of technologically infeasible, poorly thought-out suggestions thrown over the fence for a magic fairy to make them happen:

  • Peer-to-peer communication for CBRS radios. LTE is not Lora; radios don't have physical ability to communicate peer-to-peer
  • Get federal funding - who is going to be responsible for getting it? Who is going to be paying lawyers and the team to compete in federal bids?
  • Nova should pay T-Mo to make CBRS work, because all it takes is money - what information are these assumptions based on?
  • Etc. etc.
