Clickable URL in neovim is not clickable as intended

I am on macOS with Ghostty 1.1.2.

I noticed that clickable URLs have been discussed extensively. At the time of writing this post, the default behavior of enabling clickable URLs is with cmd (on macOS, at least). However, I have noticed this is inconsistent, and I am unsure why.

If I echo a URL out or use vim to view some texts with URLs, the URL is clickable with cmd pressed. However, when I use neovim (0.10.0), the clickable URL needs to be enabled by using shift+cmd as mentioned in #4618 (per this comment #4618 (reply in thread)).

I gave it a try with iTerm2, and it seems like iTerm2 can consistently just use cmd to enable the clickable URL (in either vim or neovim). To me, it seems to be somewhat related to the mouse reporting (?).

I would expect to use cmd to enable clickable URLs regardless of which applications I am running. I'm just wondering why this is inconsistent in Ghostty and if this is considered a bug.

TUI apps which steal the cursor will also steal cmd+click. Adding shift bypasses the cursor being stolen, and hence makes cmd+click work. I do agree that having to add a shift, but only sometimes, isn't particularly good behaviour, though. See also: #3903 (comment) and Mitchell's reply. Thus, I consider this a duplicate of #3848.

Since I am unfamiliar with TUI and terminal implementation details, I had a hard time wrapping my head around the issue and discussion you attached.

So, in a nutshell, we could expect a customizable way to use cmd to escape the TUI mouse grab instead of the current default shift, right?

There's two ways I can see:

1. Bind it to shift+click.
2. Add a way to ungrab the mouse from a TUI to mouse maps (which I initially forgot to comment but just added: Remapping Mouse Actions #3848 (reply in thread)).
