What about showing small clickable logos for tags that are otherwise fully out of view?
Clicking the logos then scrolls the view of the roomlist to the top of the corresponding tag.

Something like:

(the gimp logo here then represents DMs, the star favourites and # rooms)

Also: excuse the terrible image edit quality :)

Providing an easy way to jump around in a (very long) room list would be a really nice improvement. 👍

I would also vote for the originally mentioned feature. After scrolling down for 30s in my room list to grab something, I'd rather not scroll another 30s to get back up to the top.

And no, scrollbars are for squares (and hard to click).

Practically this really only means that 1 more header is added to the room list, since we currently only have favourites, DMs, rooms, and low priority, and for most uses at least 3 headers are visible (because the header stick both at the top and bottom) so adding a single header really seems like a simple solution that barely takes any more vertical space.

(of course with custom tags this may become an issue, but IIRC the custom tags are not quite a mainstream feature)

it'll also fix #14057
