What does this PR do?

This follows up #29112, removing the configurability that was included in that PR.

Why is it important?

It was decided that a simpler system would simplify support for the feature, reducing user configuration diversity. The configurablility was temporarily included to allow easier re-addition if there were to be strong community support for flexible configuration.
