EggNOG-mapper follows a versioning system which is aligned with the eggNOG database versioning rules:

  • Major version numbers (first digit) change when the underlying data is modified. This mainly refers to changes in eggNOG genomes and orthology information. Re-analysis of data is highly recommended.
  • Middle version numbers (second digit) change when important changes are made in the annotation system. This includes significant bug fixes, changes in the algorithms used to infer annotations, changes in the source functional databases, changes in the output format, or important new options are added. Re-analysis is recommended depending on the nature of the update, but significant changes in results are not expected.
  • Final version numbers (third digit) will refer to minor modifications, without significant impact in results. Re-analysis is usually not needed.
