Gameplay Overview:

  1. Objective: Teams compete to score more runs by hitting a ball and running around a series of bases to complete a circuit.
  2. Game Structure: The game is played over 18 rounds, with each team taking turns at bat in each round.
  3. Scoring: Runs are scored when batting players successfully round all bases and return to home plate.
  4. Outs: Players can be put 'out' in specific ways, which limits the batting team's opportunity to score.

Detailed Rules:

Strikes and Hits:

  • Every pitch results in either a strike or a hit, simplifying the batting process and accelerating the pace of the game.

Rounds:

  • The game consists of 18 rounds, replacing the traditional inning structure. There are no extensions or early endings to rounds.

Getting Players Out:

  • A player can be put out if the fielding team throws the ball and physically hits the player with it.
  • A batter is also out if a ball they hit is caught before touching the ground.

Team and Player Structure:

  • Each team fields one player per position without substitutions, ensuring consistent team dynamics throughout the game.
  • The batting order is randomized each round, introducing an element of unpredictability and strategy.

Handling Injuries:

  • Injured players continue to participate with reduced stats, reflecting their decreased ability to perform.

Incapacitated Players:

  • If a player is incapacitated, they are replaced by a mechanized "pitching machine" equipped to catch and "run" bases, albeit with lower efficiency than an average player.

Additional Information:

  • Equipment and Field: The equipment and field layout are designed to support the unique aspects of DAOball gameplay.
  • Umpiring and Disputes: Decisions made by umpires are final, emphasizing fair play and sportsmanship.
  • Season Structure: The DAOball season includes regular rounds leading to playoffs, determined by team standings from the regular rounds.
