Add new MWL vs UPS-RS Workitems

I am looking for clarification of differences between the worklist behavior in the UI (workitems created via the "Add new MWL" button) and workitems added via DICOMweb (POST to 'http://server:8080/dcm4chee-arc/aets/WORKLIST/rs/workitems').

1. I can retrieve the UPS-RS workitems via "curl -v -X 'GET' 'http://server:8080/dcm4chee-arc/aets/WORKLIST/rs/workitems' -H 'Accept: application/json'", but the items added via UPS-RS post don't show up on the UI MWL page, but do show up on the UI "Work Items" page. The associated patients from the UPS-RS post also show up in the UI patients page.
2. If I do a C-FIND-RQ against the WORKLIST AE at port 11112, it returns the Worklist item created on the UI with the "Add new MWL" button, but not the UPS-RS items.
3. The workitems on the UI from "Add new MWL" are not returned in the UPS-RS workitems query (same command as item 1).

Is it expected that the UI MWL list and the UPS-RS DICOMweb workitems are separate lists? Any information on how these lists interoperate (or don't) would be appreciated!
